Some interesting news from IDW over the SDCC weekend including the announcement of an all-new The Crow series launching next year along with several other series in the classic The Crow universe.
In light of recent developments at DC, coupled with a number of unacceptable delays from some other publishers, I've been looking at my pull list and working out what titles I want to continue to take monthly, which I'll be switching to trades and which, regrettably, I'll be dropping altogether.
As a result, I'm going to have a number of 'vacancies' on my monthly pull list and IDW's The Crow could be exactly the book I'm looking for.
Here's the offical press release from IDW:
At San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, IDW Publishing and Edward R. Pressman Film Corporation announced an all-new series of The Crow comics, beginning in 2012. IDW Publishing will produce several comics series in the universe of James O’Barr’s classic The Crow comics and based on the upcoming feature film. Additionally, IDW will offer collector’s editions of all existing The Crow comics.Source: IDW
“I’m glad to see The Crow land at IDW,” said Ted Adams, the company’s co-founder and chief executive officer. “I edited the last Crow series when I ran Todd McFarlane’s comics in the late ‘90’s, and we’re looking forward to bringing this classic character back to the medium in 2012 at IDW.”
Originally a comic series created by James O’Barr in the early 1980’s, The Crow was first published by Caliber Press in 1989. The concept was adapted into blockbuster film in 1994, and has inspired several different series from Kitchen Sink Press, London Night Studios, Random House and Image Comics. The original The Crow has sold nearly one million copies worldwide. Dan Kletzky's Entertainment Licensing Associates handled the licensing agreement with IDW on behalf of Pressman Film.
