Batman Solicitations - July 2011

July looks like being another good month for fans of the Batman comics: Red Robin #25 features an appearance from "one of the world’s deadliest assassins" ... Cassandra Cain; we've a guest team of creators of Marc Andreyko and Billy Tucci on Birds of Prey #14; Stephanie Brown features in Bryan Q. Miller's Batgirl title of course as well as in what sounds like a fun issue of Batman Incorporated and there will be two issues of Scott Snyder's Detective Comics to enjoy.

Also catching my eye this month is the 96-page DC Comics Presents: Batman – Gotham Noir #1 written by Ed Brubaker with art by Sean Phillips and Scott McDaniel that is, we are told, set in a "stylish Gotham City straight out of classic mystery films".

Batman Solicitations - June 2011

Not that I'm complaining you understand but there doesn't seem quite as many Batman books coming out in June 2011 as I've become used to.

Among my own highlights this month is the second issue (when did the first get solicited?) of what sounds like an enjoyable new mini-series from Scott Snyder and Kyle Higgins Batman: Gates of Gotham; Stephanie Brown struggling with the English accent as the Greenwich Mean is stolen (no, really!) in Batgirl, also featuring the return of Pere Perez on interior artwork duties; and we find Batman, Robin and The Red Hood teaming-up in Judd Winick and Guillem March's Batman and Robin.

The month of May sees another busy, busy month of Batman releases. With so many great titles coming out each month it's difficult, Batgirl aside, to pick out favourites but this month I want to highlight the arrival of Jesus Saiz as the Birds of Prey new, ongoing artist; Batman & Robin, featuring Jason Todd, from Judd Winick and Guillem March; what sounds like a fantastic read in Gotham City Sirens featuring guest-appearances from The Joker, Clayface and Jeremiah Arkham; Fabian Nicieza, Marcus To and Ray McCarthy's hugely enjoyable ongoing work on Red Robin; and, for sentimental reasons, the final issue of Batman and the Outsiders - a book I've certainly enjoyed in the past.

Batman Solicitations - March 2011

There are so many great Batman titles coming out from DC at the moment my only problem is keeping on top of my reading! I'm certainly not buying all these books in March 2011 but I am buying a good number of them. Aside from my monthly favourite - Batgirl, of course! - I'm particularly looking forward to the second issue (maybe even third if you include the zero issue) of Batwoman from J.H. Williams III and Haden Blackman and Red Robin #21 from Fabian Nicieza, Marcus To and Ray McCarthy. Mention also for the final issue of Azrael - issue #18 - which is a series I've been enjoying of late thanks to the writing of David Hine which has been complemented by some fine artwork from Cliff Richards.
