Templesmith Comics for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch

News from IDW of a new application for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch: Templesmith Comics, IDW's first creator-based app.

Templesmith Comics comes 'preloaded' with a number of free titles - the first issues of Groom Lake, Singularity 7 and Wormwood: Gentleman Corpse - with additional titles and issues available for purchase within the app. Paid-for issues are typically priced starting at 59p.

With the launch of Templesmith Comics, IDW - the first comics publisher to launch its own 'in app purchase' storefronts for the iPhone and iPod Touch - brings its offering to five storefronts. Existing storefronts from IDW include G.I. Joe Comics, Transformers Comics, Star Trek, as well as the main IDW Comics store. All five IDW store-front applications are powered by iVerse.

30 Days of Night: Dark Days

I think it was on an episode of Kryptographik that I first heard about the 30 Days of Night comic book series with its subsequent feature film and series of live action prequel 'webisodes'. Off the back of hosts Damian and Brian's comments and recommendation I picked up a couple of the trades and loved every single page - these were vampire stories that I'd waited a long time to read.

Likewise I really enjoyed the 2007 film staring Josh Hartnett and Melissa George, along with the aforementioned 'webisodes', so it seemed appropriate this morning to read on Damian's blog - The Furnace - that the films sequel 30 Days of Night: Dark Days has received a DVD release date.

It’s been almost a year since the Alaskan town of Barrow’s population was decimated by vampires during its annual month-long sunset. Riddled with grief over the death of her husband, bound by nightmares and void of all emotions beyond hate and sorrow, Stella (Sanchez) has spent the past months traveling the world, trying to convince others that vampires exist. Met with skepticism and laughter, Stella is ready to throw in the towel when a group of lost souls (Coiro, Baird and Perrineau) offers an incredible opportunity: the chance to exact revenge upon Lilith (Kirshner), the vampire queen responsible for the assault on Stella’s sleepy Alaskan town. With nothing remaining to live for, and nothing left to fear, Stella joins their mission and ventures into the uncharted underbelly of Los Angeles where she pushes herself to the most extreme limits to stop the evil from striking again.

30 Days of Night: Dark Days goes on sale on 5 October 2010 and will be available on DVD, Blu-Ray and a special 'DVD Combo' pack.

Templesmith illustrates Doctor Who

I'm not particularly a fan of Doctor Who - although I know a couple of fellows who are - but I'll be picking up a copy of a new one-shot called Doctor Who: The Whispering Gallery published by IDW.

Why? Well, I'm a huge Ben Templesmith* fan - I've followed his work since 30 Days of Night and recently read and enjoyed Welcome to Hoxford that Ben wrote and illustrated.

The preview pages of The Whispering Gallery I've seen look amazing - click here to see them - and the story written by Leah Moore and John Reppion sounds intriguing: 'The Tardis lands in a maze-like gallery filled with thousands of talking pictures, and the Doctor and Martha discover they've come across a planet where showing emotion has been outlawed'.
