This is part four of the current six part 'War of the Witchblades' story-arc and, if the previous issue was about the two Witchblade bearers, then I see this issue being about those manipulating both Sara and Dani. It was intriguing to read through around half of the 20-story pages exploring the objectives and the motivations of Sabine, The Angelus Force, Tau'ma and the Curator.
Once again, the writing and artwork is exemplary. This is first-rate sequential story-telling from Ron Marz and the four issues so far have been beautifully paced. After the 'explosion' that was part three we take something of a breath and half a step backwards whilst we learn more about what drives the forces around the Witchblade bearers as strategy, rather than strength, becomes paramount.
I always appreciate the imaginative panel layout used in the Witchblade books and this issue continues that fine tradition. The issue comes with a choice of two eye-catching covers: cover a from regular artist Stjepan Sejic and cover b Luke Ross from the Captain America book.
I've commented before about the extras that you get with a Witchblade book and this issue is no different. Here we get a very nice single page feature 'The Art of War: Sun Tzu and The Witchblade' written by Scott Newman, the letters page 'The Balance Sheet', a 5-page preview of the Pilot Season 2008 winner 'Genius' #1 - looks interesting - and a preview of John Tyler Christopher's stunning cover for Witchblade #129.
It's becoming clear that whilst the fight is between Sara and Dani, the war is being orchestrated by the mysterious forces around them.
